British Antarctic Suvey (BAS) is looking to appoint a GIS and Mapping Specialist within the BAS Mapping and Geographic Information Centre (MAGIC) to deliver a GIS/mapping Helpdesk service.
This well-established service provides expert GIS support to BAS staff, delivering bespoke maps and other GIS products on a fast turn-round basis.
The job requires solid expertise and demonstrable experience with ArcGIS, with an emphasis on producing map-based outputs.
Outputs from this role will support a wide range of activities across the width of BAS polar operations and science programmes. Liaising with BAS staff to define tasks, the ability to negotiate and work to deadlines and to track and report on progress are key aspects of the role.
Secondary activities are contributing to design and compilation of published regional-scale topographic maps and managing sales of BAS maps through its distributors.
